Questions
Q1What is the delayed-payment protection?
Under the MSMED Act a buyer must pay a registered MSME within the agreed period, and in any case within 45 days, failing which compound interest at above the RBI bank rate applies. It is a genuinely useful lever with slow-paying corporate customers.
Q2Can a service business or professional register?
Yes. Udyam covers both manufacturing and service enterprises, including proprietorships and many professional practices.
Q3Does it expire?
No, the registration is permanent. But details must be kept current, and turnover and investment figures are auto-updated from your PAN and GST data.
Q4Does it help with trademark filing?
Yes. Udyam registration is what lets you claim the concessional government fee on a trademark application, which is a meaningful saving per class.
